Can a dog really pee on your foot twice? Can lightning strike twice in the same spot? It sure can!! And let me tell you, it's pretty exhilarating!!
Duke, the culprit
Normally I like to keep my posts positive and upbeat (I leave the craziness to my other blog) but I just couldn't resist sharing the awesome week I had. As many of you know Joe is already gone to Utah so it's just me, Cade and the dogs left to wrap up the 'ol fort. It all started two Sundays ago when Cade decided to be clingy and cry when anyone else held him. So he came into my primary class and then into singing time. That was a treat. Four 5-year-olds and a one-year-old. Then the following proceedings of the week consisted of Cade crying in the night...and day...for who knows why and it, quite frankly, completely wore me out. There's something about feeling the amount of pressure I felt being alone and trying to get things done when there's an emotional child that can make a sane person...well...insane!
So I finally felt like I had Cade's sleep schedule under control and back to normal when I was awoken (and yes that is a word) by none other than Duke, my two year old puppy. He is crying as he is itching his ear and shaking his head and itching his ear again. When I looked in his ear it was definitely infected. Crap! It's 2:30 in the morning, he is obviously in pain. But Cade is actually asleep. What do I do? Vet ER? I didn't know if I could stand listening to him cry until morning. After running through a lot of crazy scenarios (which at the time seemed quite legit) I finally decided to wait it out and head to the vet in the morning.
So by 9:30am we had seen the vet and got three different medications for his ear. Prednisone, Amoxicillin and ear drops. So we get started on the meds. The prednisone makes dogs thirsty and therefore they need to go potty more. With this in mind I knew I had to let Duke out more often than before.
We go to bed. At about 6:00am the next morning I am AGAIN awoken by a strange sound. Running water. What the?? I can't figure it out...what IS that? I thought a pipe had burst and was spewing out water in some random location in the house. But nope! It was Duke. Peeing on the carpet. I was furious but couldn't yell out for fear that it would wake up Cade. So I scrubbed pee out of the carpet bright and early. Loved it.
Next morning the same thing. GEEEZ!!!!
Then later that day.
And than finally the next day he peed on my foot. ON MY FOOT!!! (then again later on the floor) Oh, I've never felt so much rage in my life. I just couldn't act quickly enough. The dang dog peed everywhere!
I decided I'd had enough of the medication. That was it. No more scrubbing pee off the carpet (or my foot). Fast forward to the next morning, this morning. I got up to get Cade out of bed and I knew I should hurry and put Dukey boy out but figured I was safe for three minutes while I changed a diaper because he wasn't on the meds. And what do you know????????????????
He peed on my foot.

That sounds like something that could only happen in the movies. Well, I guess you do still live in California, the movie capital of the world, so........
This is why I can't have pets. I hate cleaning up after them. But you did get a good laugh out of me on this post.
Thanks for reassuring me that I don't have pets for a reason. And my kids know that they can't have a dog until mom stops having babies. I just can't see them mixing well in my mind. I have 8 sunbeams and only one is a girl. They drive me crazy. Once I had Matthew in class with me cause Brad was teaching. Oh my that was a bad day.
Damn Duke.
Holy crap that was freakn hilarious!! Just make sure your new tenants don't read this!!

Dang...that warrants a bad week card and Joe OWES you when you get to Utah. I keep asking you but have you found a house yet? Townhome? Condo? Are you living in the STREETS? So glad you'll be back here :)
Ash you took the words right out of my mouth!
That sucks for you but at the same time is SO HILARIOUS!! Sorry you are having a crappy time all alone.
i thought i'd better start commenting more after seeing your latest post. :-) that's a very sad... but funny story about duke. i'm sorry you're stuck in cali all alone... besides cade and the dogs. we are so excited to see you all the time! it's only a few more days and you'll be here!
Ok, I laughed so hard!!! What a Marley and me moment! Thanks for sharing!
Oh my word, I thought I only had days like that! This is really strange because the reason I stumbled across your post here is that my 8 month pup (who, incidentally, had an ear infection about a week ago) peed on my foot for the first time today!!! I was looking online to see if there was any reason for it and came across your post here.
Just fyi, a lot of people think it is a dominance issue, but I think my pup just thought I was a little too happy... ;)
